Another oddball W201 question....Blower Motor
Folks,
As y'all can tell from my latest series of postings, I am transferring parts from my 190E to my 190D. I just removed the blower motor from the 'E" and when testing it with 12V it spins up but very quickly quits.....due to some sort of internal overload, I can hear it click when it resets itself. I am aware that the blower motor normally runs thru a set of resistors that allow for speed control.....so I don't know "for sure" if this motor ever actually gets a full 12V. Should this motor pop it's overload with straight 12V from my pickup truck's battery?? I see these blowers "all the time" on e-Bay....is this a part that wears out easily / regularly?? SB

I am not sure if there is overvoltage protection in the blower motor itself; you can try to run it with 10V and see what happens.
These blower motors are prone to rust formation on shaft and bearings (presumably from condensation), and the telltale sign is an intermittent squeak. It goes downhill from there. Unless it is very cheap, I would not touch one from ebay, but would spend the money on a new one. It depends on whether you are planning on keeping the car. I had the squeal in my car, but I too have a 190E parts car, and simply transferred the blower assy over; so far so good.
