stuttering clutch : change your slave cyl
Worked for me. I recall in my previous posts reporting the problem of a stuttering clutch e starting from a stanstill in 1st gear, that there were many others with the same symptoms. Since then, the clutch in my 240D developed a low pedal, clutch not fully disengaging, can't shift into gear, gear grinding etc.
After putting in a new slave cylinder all the problems are gone including the stuttering clutch! I did not see any visible leakage of fluid or any observable drop in the brake fluid level. I dissassembled the old slave cyl and there was one small spot of rust. That was apparently enough to not engage the clutch disc smoothly thus causing the stuttering. I am glad this clutch issue is fixed! It was suggested that the problem was a bad clutch disc and pressure plate and I am glad I tried the simple and cheaper route first by replacing the slave cyl. .
