Help 79 300TD !

Yesterday my car was so down on power that I had to pull over to the side of the highway on a steep hill and then the motor died and would not restart for about 10 minutes. After that it barely made it up the hill but when I went down the other side it started running ok again. The fuel tank is full.

I am thinking maybe a clogged fuel filter??

Yea, I would check (change) fuel filters first, then possibly the tank strainer (there is a little screen in the tank to keep gunk from going anywhere and it sometimes gets clogged with said gunk)

Hopefully you ordered a few extra to keep on hand. At least the smaller clear one. It's a good idea to keep an extra in your car too.

if by some chance filters dont resolve the problem, make sure breather for the fuel tank is not clogged *causing a vacum effect in tank*. Also.. check the lift pump or fuel pump on the side of the Injector pump. If it's weak, it may not be able to pull fuel correctly but when going down the hill,,, you had gravity pushing fuel to pump.

Got the 2 new filters from Fastlane in 2 days and just installed them. After considerable priming of the fuel system I got the car running. First test drive was positive as I took it up some pretty steep hills without hesitation or failure.
