'97 E300 turn signal stalk is LOOSE!

The turn signal stalk is loose, it rotates freely about 30 degrees up/down around the steering column!

Feels very funny to have to use such exaggerated movements to actuate it.

Anyone heard of this before? And can recommend a fix?
