THNX connerm. I have 255K on the original. Can hear the bearings if I hold a "stethescope" up to it. Reckon it's due. These are not rebuildable as the lift pump I assume? Better start saving my nickels and dimes.

Are the bearings protected by a enclosed race, or will they "un arse" into the motor if it goes bad?

Is this really necessary? I have not heard of vacuum pump problems in the OM606 similar to those suffered by the OM603.

By definition, preventative maintenance is not necessary.

Pump could probably be rebuilt. No kit available though. Might just need a dremel tool and some grinding wheels to remove the pressed in check valves. I didn't look closely. I figure the new pump was = 1.5 car payments. It stung, but I didn't look back.

Respectfully submitted.
