Just wondering if anyone that has disabled the egr (and maybe also the CCV ) in their OM606’s changed their glow plugs yet? It’ll be interesting to see if these problems with removing the plugs go away…

I cleaned my intake plumbing and blocked off the EGR valve at both ends in February 2008. At the same time (and this was the reason to pull it all apart) I replaced the #2 glow plug. I soaked the threads with PB-Blaster overnight before beginning but still had to work it back and forth a few times with a socket wrench. It came out without damage and there was not much carbon on the tip or anywhere else. I did not ream the threads (not having the proper tool) but did put some anti-seize on the new glow plug before installing it.

In July 2008 I replaced the #3 glow plug. This required pulling only the crossover pipe which, I was happy to see, was quite clean except for a film of oil from the turbo. The "outgoing" glow plug came out easily and was also fairly clean, perhaps a bit cleaner than #2 had been. Both old glow plugs are cleaned up and sitting next to my monitor as I type this.

The other four glow plugs have not been changed under my administration so their status is unknown (except that they are still good). Owner #2 (I am #4) replaced all six glow plugs in January 2005; that is the most recent GP service other than mine for which I can find documentation.

Look with a mirror at all your fuel line connections and make certain both clips are seated firmly. Some can be tough to seat because of the larger diameter *round* oring profile.
OK, I'm assuming you mean the O-ring between the SOV and the IP...? That one in particular I was suspicious of because it doesn't really have a groove for the O-ring.

Yep, I replaced every one except for the delivery valves.

I did however, coat every O-ring with diesel fuel prior to installing it in hopes that they would seat properly. Oh well, back off with the manifold. I'm getting good at it now...

Evan - Correct.

Take a good look with a mirror and light first. Might be able to reach the culprit w/o pulling the IM. On my turbo, I can do all of them by moving the windsheild washer bottle out of the way. I find it easiest to pull the SOV and every line attached to it as a unit and re-install the same way.

Ditto.

I've had mine apart a couple times now, and find I have great access if I remove the washer fluid bottle and Diesel filter housing.
