That's almost useless as a wagon without a flat loading cargo bay.

Should have used 123 wagon roof rails and interior panels. Someone should graft the tail end of a 123 wagon for a factory or Binz look.

You think this is aftermarket? The seller is claiming its not.

I've seen that car before, I think it's one of those "factory authorized" conversions by a coach builder...

I tried to buy this car about 18 months ago from a seller in Dallas. The guy not the best kind of person to deal with. It was listed for $3500 then.

It's probably built by Crayford who is a British coach builder and converted many cars into wagons or convertibles.

Has to be. From the VIN it's a 116.033 or 450SEL sedan. That's a standard 450SEL. If MB had meant it to be something else, it would be 166.0

I'm curious to know if that's even a US spec car. I don't think right side mirror and rear headrests were available on any US 450SEL except the 6.9. But I don't imagine ACC was popular outside the US (or in the US for that matter). And the labels on the radiator support look to be US spec.

I'm pretty sure the 123 wagon was the first wagon built in-house. Here's some info on Crayford and other post-delivery builders -

I tried to buy it too from that guy in Dallas (I'm in Houston); it is a Crayford. I wanted it just because no one has one.

Looks like a Ford Grenada Wagon and a W116's mutant offspring.

I doubt it will bring anything close to $10K in this economy.

Good work - they did use the Grenada wagon top.

Are you talking about the European MKII Granny's? I always thought that those cars looked a lot like W116's.

Seems like the one for sale in Dallas had a crack along the top of the roof where the wagon part was spliced/joined.
In some ways it is a very clean look, in other ways it is too obvious that a wagon hatch was welded to the back of a sedan.
If it is the one from Dallas it had far more rust and issues than pictured. It was the same color so it just has to be the same car. If so I guess they fixed the split along the top.
POS, it ain't clean enough for you!

If the roof rails extended to the front and the rear quarter glass was a more typical MB shape and at the same height at the forward glass, it would look a lot more "natural."

Still, it is pretty cool.
