hood pad bummer

I just ordered a new hood pad off Ebay. (EZ ShopnSell)
I am totally disappointed. It has a Febi part number but it looks like I can go to Lowe's and find better material to make a hood pad out of. It seriously looks like carpet padding. I am not sure I even want to put it on my car. I got the one for the 126 chassis and decided not to get the diesel specific pad.

Where did you guys get yours?

IIRC both ********AZ and Performance Parts both carry it. Again IIRC it is in the $60 range. Why waste your money with ebay cr*p?

There were (at that time a couple years ago) TWO part numbers. If you want to keep the car, get the higher cost one. It's coated foam rubber with an aluminum heat section over the turbo. For best results, take the hood off put it across some saw horses. Clean the hinges and hood where they join. Put masking tape across the two pieces and mark it so you can line it up when you put it back. Slice it with a razor just before you take the bolts out.

Do you remember the seller ID? The guy I bought mine from had two different available. One fit the 126 but was meant for a gasser. The other had the foil shield for the 300SD. I liked the gasser one because it was a dark color and would hide any dirt/oil. The diesel one had the foil but was a gray color.

The seller emailed me right back and offered me a refund but I asked him about the quality of the diesel pad as compared to the pad that I received. Seriously, the pad that I received was no different than carpet padding.

Performance Products. $60 + shipping. Used Permatex large red tubes for the adhesive, I think we used up two and a half. Let it stay upright for a few hours while we did a few things. Checked back and it was on really well. The gap between the goop applied on the hood pad was about two inches apart to give it some hold. So far so good.

Got mine, IIRC, from autohauz.... and used the 3M spray adhesive (one large can) and its been on almost 10 months and perfect. Clean good and scuff good and spray on and roll on good... and its on there. Nice pad...

The seller emailed me back and said the diesel pad was "much better in many ways"

This one is going back and I'm getting his one for diesels. We'll see.

Cphilip looks like your radiator resivior needs to be refilled and the EGR valve needs to be remove .

As far as hood pad i used the carpet insulator and my new pad IIRC glue them together and its works great. Its far better than having one

Needed to be drained and refilled you mean. PO had put the Green stuff in there. But he had no idea which Green so I Had to drain it and flush it all to be sure. Put the Zerex yellow in about a week later than that.

Then I ended up replacing the whole radiator (for broken nipple) and did the thermostat too.

That pict is from just barely after I bought it.

Haven't had any issues with the EGR so its staying until I do.
