AC Removal Precations
I'm thinking of removing the AC system from my 1982 300D. The vaccum system under the dash need to be rebuilt, I've already cut the belt from the AC compressor(On thing less to fail right?)
Would it be a good decision to pull all the under-hood parts and clean/rebuild them over the winter, and reinstall in the spring(or evilbay them if i get frustrated) Is there anything in specific I should be cautious of? How I can test to see if there is still R12 in the system? I don't want to go spraying it all over the place(in the off chance it's still partially charged)

Connect a gauge when the car is cold and compare the pressure reading with the temperature scale for R12. If it is close, there is probably liquid in the system which will discharge violently. If it is very low, there is only gas in the system which will not.
Flush the compressor with new oil and seal the ports for storage. |

Did the system work when you had it? Have you check for system pressure?
Probably a good idea to just leave all in place until you get ready to work on it, unless you plan on plugging all the refridgerant lines. Dirt an bugs can find thier way in and cause issues, if not flushed out.
