240D just purchased
I just bought a '81 240D ($500) which brings my collection of MB's to two. The automatic transmission is not shifting right and it is running cool (50C). I know that the thermostat is most likely causing the low temp, but I am curious if I can fix it. When I bought the car and drove home it ran at just above 80C, but the next morning it never came up to above 80 even on the highway. I am thinking that the thermostat is stuck open. Anyone got a tip.
The other issue is that the trans. is not shifting up to the next gear properly. I have to "help" it by taking my foot off the accelerator and then it up shifts. This maneuver is problematic in town. please send any tips or suggestions. Thank you. |

New thermostat and do a search on setting your transmission vacuum. On the back of the injection pump is a vacuum control valve for the transmission shifting. If bad or not set right the tranny will not shift correctly. Also make sure all vacuum lines are properly connected and have a tight seal. Especially the one to the tranny.
