Look what i found in my AT&T Bill!!!

So i was going through my AT&T bill and just as i was going to throw away all the add i see this one. See Attached image.

Who in their right mind would choose a W123 as a car that is broken down. i mean, use a Kia or US car brand, but why choose one of the most dependable cars ever made.

Bad marketing department.

its b/c the photographer hauls all his stuff in it and can drive everywhere he needs to go. He just skimped on buying a rental car for the picture to keep overhead down.

right?

Betcha it's a stock photo they bought from some website.

And using it to advertise a roadside assistance program.. when MBUSA provides a free one for all MB owners. LOL

If you look closely you can see that it has a MB battery and a very clean and proper looking engine compartment. At least its a nice W123!

They of course photo shopped out the hood star though....

Judging by the air cleaner position and plumbing, it looks like a DIESEL!!! Maybe an oil cooler hose blew...

Bad marketing department.
Are you serious? The youngest of these cars is 23 years old. Of course they're going to break down at some point or another. Yeah, they're dependable, but stuff breaks on old cars. I had to have a tow about a month ago after I had the dreaded crankshaft pulley failure. Is that a sign of bad reliability? Nope, just according to my indy, a sign of normal wear and tear expected of an engine nearing 400k mi.

I seem to remember a certain thread poster having to have his W123 towed 100 miles into Houston a few months ago.

Seems like choosing a W123 as a car that's broken down isn't out of the ordinary now, is it?

Hey Hey, that is getting personal. Just because i bought a nice W123 from an old lady that had only driven it 8,000 miles in the last 14 years, and i was so busy with work not to really get all aspects of the car checked out, does not mean that it is unreliable when it breaks down. my first long drive in the vehicle came with me having only driven it 800 previous to that. Stuff breaks, but Mercedes lasts longer.

That's actually a very good answer - I've known a few photographers and that's exactly what they would have done too.

I know. That's why I don't see it as odd to use an old MB in the advertisement. It looked pretty clean with the OE battery and all, maybe the young lady had run into the same predicament as you, little old lady's car, didn't have it properly checked out.

Look at us, writing stories about the advertisement, only owners of old MBs would do that. Of course if I'd written it, it would involve me stopping to help a distressed MB owner, and discovering her to be a college student too, a fine college student at that. I discover the culprit to be a clogged fuel filter from a batch of bad fuel. After finding a spare filter in my glovebox, and installing it, priming the system, and starting flawlessly after a 5 sec glow, I get a number and a "I don't know how I can possibly repay you!" To which my reply would be "Oh, I think we could find a way! ". Oh Lord, I'm sounding like aklim now!
