What apparatus have I disturbed now?
I pulled the valve cover on my 1984 300D to change the gasket, changed the vacuum line from the ALDA banjo bolt to some place on the firewall and changed the brake booster line that has two vacuum fittings in the middle. Right after that, I started the car and the "brake" light on the dash will not turn off. The emergency brake engages, holds and disengages okay, the brake fluid is topped off and not old/etc.. any ideas?

since you quoted the word brake, I'm assuming the light says the word brake... for that light to be on, your reservoir is low on fluid, or the level indicator is low. it's difficult to tell if you're low on fluid by looking at it, pull the screen out of the tank and look inside, it should be full up above the line. both front and back.
you could have damaged the wires from one of the two sensors on the reservoir too.
