woodruff key/chain tensioner
I'm installing a woodruff key today and I'm trying to collect bits of information from these posts. I'm reading remove the chain tensioner or just the spring. I don't have a new gasket so I want to remove just the spring. I found a post that said 'make sure you pull the pin through and start it from the outside'. Will I understand this once I get in there? Anything to watch out for when taking this bit apart? I also read when done to turn the engine over twice by hand. Any other things to this job that might be a not obvious detail?

removing the spring relives the chain from pressure. Some models of the the tensioner are racheting and hold their position as they advance to pick up slack. By removing just the spring, you avoid the tendency of the tensioner to advance while you have the chain and cam sprocket removed.
just pull out the spring if you are not replacing the chain. |
