300SDL radiator flush questions
 

I am considering a commercial radiator flush.. as the coolant is being changed to the correct MB coolant, from the green stuff. The cooling system seems to be very clean, but it seems wise to run a flush of the system anyway.. TRUTH be told, I dont really want to get into a citric acid flush, as there is a huge amount of flushing water that get contaminated with anti-freeze... which makes for a lot of stuff to hold onto until the hazardous waste pick up day comes around again. and the car only has about 25 thousand miles on it..

is there a reasonably good commercial radiator flush that will do 2/3s the job that the citric acid flush will do? or does this whole idea stink, and I should go find 15 or so gallon containers to hold the flushing water after this operation is over?

Many municipal sewage systems handle antifreeze. It's prescription drugs they can't handle.

Clarification - I don't mean storm drains, I mean where your sink and toilet effluent goes.

I'm not so lucky, in this case to have that option.. only a basic leach field in my back yard.. Yet I had no idea that municipalities could do such with antifreeze. I'm impressed with that fact..

Just flush the system with water from a garden hose. Connect one of the Prestone flush kits to the hose at the rear of the head and use a standard garden hose..........but........watch the pressure.

If you can open the block drain while you do this.........you're golden.

Finally, if you want to to the perfect job, remove the radiator and clean the fins with a commercial condenser cleaner and/or a pressure washer. The reward is worth this effort.
