Question Hose Down Radiator?

I have the hood open on my W126 and I looked at the radiator. There appears to be some dirt, webs, and stuff like that in there. Should I just water hose it down from the front? The car does heat up a bit more than usual.

Using water to clear all that crap out of there is a good idea.

The only thing I'm worried about is the radiator cracking or something due to watering down.

if it is raining outside, and you are driving full speed, operating temp, on the highway.. does your radiator crack?

Not that it rains here in Socal as much (as there are plenty of brush fires), but touché...

Hose away.........but, you're wasting your time.

The fins are very close together and water from a garden hose won't even begin to remove all the accumulated debris.

You've got to remove it from the vehicle and use a pressure washer or some commercial condenser cleaner. Even after two hours work, it still won't be perfect..........hold it up to the sun and look through the fins if you have doubts.

I just went up to one of those wash it yourself car wash places and sprayed the heck out of mine to clean it out. but I also have my condenser removed so it was easy cleaning.

If you want to spend some money remove the radiator and take it to a radiator shop and have them clean it for you.

A good hosing through the grille should be part of your wash routine. If the radiator is still dirty enough that it's overheating, hosing from other angles or removing it for cleaning is a good thing. As others have stated, it will not hurt the radiator.

Washing from the back side should be done too.
