Hi, my '85 300TD did not come with an owner's manuel. What is the correct procedure for checking the automatic transmission fluid level? thanks... Larry

Engine and transmission fully warm.........preferably hot.......after a high speed highway run.

Engine running in neutral.

Remove dipstick and wipe clean.

Insert dipstick all the way and remove.

Read.

Level should be between the two marks.

If any fluid is needed, the tendency is to overfill (NOT GOOD). One inch on the dipstick is about one pint of fluid............at the most.

Vehicle LEVEL

These babies are VERY sensitive to the vehicle(and therefore the "T" pan)
being on a level surface when you check the transmission fluid.
You would not be out of line checking the "pad" you're parked on with a
4 foot carpenter's level,FIRST.
