help: driver's side glass replacement, anyone?

I have to replace the shattered driver's-side glass on my W123 wagon. I've removed the door panel (upholstery) and the what was left of the glass and its mounting. Any tricks to getting a new window in there? will a new one install from the top - down (lowering it through the seal) or do I have to (can I?) remove the entire inner door panel?

thanks!

Only changed one pasenger window on a 123. Quite easy install. Goes in from topside. Been awhile but think it was very easy. If it was a S.O.B. I would have remembered it well.

It is very easy!!! Just unbolt the widow from the regulator and pull it out from the outside. Simple and not a PITA. I have done it before on my 116 and don't think it would be much worse on the 123. So it would be the reverse to put it in just slid it in from the outside.

thanks for the response. this wagon is a euro-spec with manual windows. the bottom of the window attaches to a metal 'insert' which bolts to the mechanism that raises and lowers with the crank. it seems that this insert would be too wide to fit through the top past the seal. i'm assuming that a used replacement window would already have this metal base/insert, as it appears to be permanently pressed onto the bottom of the glass.

You do put it through the seal with the insert on. I would not like to try to remove that insert rail and put it on another piece of bare glass. . Possible I am sure somehow. Might be a dog to do though.

thanks! that's what I needed to hear! sounds like the rail will slip thru the top past the seal.

Funny you should ask

I had replaced all the door striker plates on my 123 and had not quite got them all adjusted just right.......
well I had to cary one of the guys from work to go get his car and he hopped in and the passenger side would not close like he expected it to. I told him to "give it a littel follow through" when he closed it and it would work. He missinterpreted this to me "Slam the ever loving F*ck out of it" and shatterd the glass.

Even more funny was the fact that he had been just newly hired and still had the FNG vibe going, so imagine the look on his face as he shatteres the bosses window while the boss is doing him a favor, really quite priceless.

Any way, call me a wussy but I just called Binswanger and had the FNG pay for it.
