remove 81 240d driver's seat - HELP
Having successfully removed & disassembled the passenger seat so I can swap it with the driver's seat, I was surprised to find how hard it is to remove driver's seat. I have searched this & other forums and found how to do this on a 300d, but my 240d seems different. The rear mounting bolts unbolt from the bottom & I can't get a wrench on them. The rear tracks are the same with a machine screw. Also, the mechanism to raise the seat height does not work. No idea if this has any effect on the problem. Enclosed are 2 pics, which I hope illustrate my problem. Thanks in advance to anyone who has encountered this situation or who can offer any advice.

The height adjustment needs to be able to function. You have to have the seat up in order to gain access to those bolts.

81 240d driver's seat height adjustment
Ascalise, thx for the reply. Now how do I get the height adjuster to work? Can you explain how it should function? I assume that when the door side handle is lifted it presses down on the thing under the seat. Then the bar with the 2 tangs rotates, and this raises the rear of the seat.

Something like that. Easiest thing to do is look at your passenger seat that you already have out and figure out how it works. I'm sure there is a way you can get it to slide, maybe with a long screwdriver or something? Make sure you get it functioning properly before you reinstall it in the car. Once you study the other seat you will realize it is really simple.

I had a long fight with mine and finally used a chisel to cut off the bolt top. Took the tracks apart and found a dime was keeping the height adjuster track from sliding. The dime was held in place by years of crud. Used a lot of WD40 and got the tracks working and the seat back in place.
Try putting your strongest helper in the back seat and have him push the seat forward as you hold up on the adjuster handle. It it's just crud, it should move.
