temp sensor issue

Ok, I have a question.
there is a temp sensor down by my feet in the heater duct. I think that is what it is. It is a wire coiled up and mounted to the box, and some sealant. Guessing it goes inside the duct.

the wires are not plugged in, they are jumped with a wire.
What issues will this cause with the heater? how do I test that sensor.

thanks

That sounds like it could be the evaporator temp regulator.

Maybe you could better describe the location of your feet!!! ("Inside my shoes" isn't the answer I am looking for.)

how about at the end of my legs?
It is just above and behind the accelerator pedal. I have been looking for a pod that is leaking when I found this.

That looks like it.
Can I test it? what am I looking for? what issue will it cause to leave it jumped out?
thanks
Doug

It's basically a temp switch. It should be closed above 36*F and open below that. It cuts power to the a/c compressor to prevent the evaporator from freezing. When the switch fails, it tends to open at a too-high temp, causing a lack of a/c. Some adjustment of the trigger point is possible via an adjustment screw.

since IO do not ruin the AC and do not plan to, Should probably leave it unplugged VS. Jumpered?

Do you use heat? If so, replace it or leave it jumpered.

The switch has no function except with regard to a/c operation.
