Confusion about what happens when you remove ARV for good?

Hi folks,

I'm starting to work and understand more about my 603 engine on my W124 87 300DT. One of the things I want to do is to understand the vacuum system as well as the other critical functions such as fuel delivery. As mentioned in one of my previous posts about slow 0 - 60 times, yes, I do have a fuel leak at the IP. But I'll start another thread on that later.

I want to eliminate vacuum pressure to the EGR and ARVs. To that end, I purchased a blocking kit from Brian Carlton. But right now, I am waffling on taking two routes, removing parts or blocking lines. Right now, I am leaning towards blocking lines because I am that guy that cops make examples out of (e.g. rolling stops, driving 40 in a 35mph, etc) and by some stroke of bad luck, I'd probably get nailed for removing these parts as I live in Kalifornistan.

So if I go route 1 and just block off the lines, is it correct that I block off the 2 red, light blue, and red lines with a bb, right? Also, I imagine it would be good as some people have done and make a no-hole brass gasket for the EGR, right?

Now if I go route 2 (removing ARVs), what happens to your vehicle's ventilation system if the ARVs are removed? It's highlighted by the thick blue line? If nothing, then where do you disconnect this line? If to the left of the filter (part 62a), then do you just cap the end of the filter? If to the right, how much of the line do you remove? And if I go route 2, I'll install Brian's EGR blocking plate kit.

Sorry if this has not been covered, but I am still searching for this answer and still confused after reading many o' threads on this topic.

Thanks,
Bob

I would be totally astonished if you found a cop that actually knew what to look for on these cars.

Get a coke can and cut a gasket out of it.

Nothing since its for the emissions system. You should be able to remove those valves and all their tubing.

Don't forget to jam open or put a straight pipe in place of the airflow meter.

All the red, blue, and green lines in your sketch can be eliminated without any operating issues.

The vent line is just for the vacuum transducers (Y31 and Y31/1). It runs to the interior so it doesn't suck up dirt and other particles from inside the engine compartment and deposit it inside the transducers. You'll also notice a little fuel filter looking thing on that line as well (looks like 62a in the diagram).
