Check Engine light does not come on when MAF unplugged
Hi, I read somewhere that was describing the reading of DTC values that an easy way to throw a code is to unplug the MAF sensor. I have a 1992 W140 300SD that I've tried unplugging the MAF sensor. However, my check engine light did not come on.
Does anyone know if it's normal? Also, does anyone know if it's possible to "hack" ECU somehow to never throw CE light? I'm worried that PO has done something like that for inspection purposes but now it's leaving me "blind" as far as diagnostics. However, I kinda like this because the side effect of this operation is that my turbo is working all the time now. Before, it would only run for a short period of time when the car was cold, then no matter what kind of RPM or load turbo would not engage. But now it's working fine. I'm thinking of leaving it unplugged and not replacing MAF even. Any ideas?

The simplest hack is removing the bulb. Does the light come on when you turn the key to glow?

The "check engine" bulb.
