Lound Belt Squeal Plus bad alternator

Well I am not sure if it is the alternator yet. I bought a voltage regulator today and installed it. I tried to jump it off for almost an hour today with the wagon. No Go.
That battery is deeeead.

Do ya'll think that the alternator might be bad and it is beyond the voltage regulator? I got teh alternator tested at Advanced and they said that it is not putting anyhting out at all.

Also, does the belt squeal have anything to do with a bad alterntor?

My AC compressor made an awful squeeking sound on and off for several months before it simply started squeeking non stop for 5 minutes straight. Then it got really quiet...and smelled like burning rubber. The clutch and then the pulley side bearing failed on my Air Conditioning compressor.

The squeel you are hearing may be the alternator dying. If it siezes up and takes out the belt you will loose AC (no big deal), alternator (not too big of a deal until the battery is dead), and the water pump (Huge deal).

I vote that the squeel and the bad alternator are very related.

I tightened the belt earlier today b/c it was dreadfully loose when I checked it (doesn't squeal anymore). Finally jumped it off after about 45 minutes of charging with the TD this morning (thankfully it is running good).
It ran perfectly fine but after every time I tried cranking it again later in the day it was harder and harder to crank (the longer it sits the harder it is to crank).
Then I went to a church group meeting (in the TD) and came home about 3 or 4 hours later and the 300D would not turn over at all.

I think that I am going to put an new alternator on it tomorrow or definitely jack it up and look at the connections from the starter to the alternator and others down there.

You tightened the belt enough to stop the offensive squeel. Just as an additional check see if you can turn the alternator pulley with the fan blades on the alternator.

If it still turns your alternator belt is still too loose or shot. It would be a shame to buy a new alternator for a bad or loose belt. You should not be able to turn that alternator fan by hand.

If you have a voltmeter check for 13.5 volts on the battery with the engine running. If you read that you may have a drain on your electrical system. You mentioned the longer the car sits the slower or harder the starter turns over.

A quick test for drain. Read the voltage with engine off. Should be about 12.5 volts Check it again every 15 minutes or so. It basically should remain the same. If it keeps dropping below the voltage read about 15minutes after you shut the car down you may have another problem

try to giggle the shaft of the alternator if it moves up and down alot then the bearing are out and are causing the alternator to short out. Have you taken the alternator to get it tested after you got the new voltage regulator in.

No I have not tested it or pulled it.
The belts are new.

I will perform those tests you guys mentioned. Thanks.

What setting should the volt meter be on? Mine has about 10 or so different settings..
