OEM ATF Fluid

I will be draining ATF fluid in couple days.
Is this the right ATF fluid for 1987 300D
If so, not a bad deal?!

I think any ATF fluid is fine as long as it is Dexron III rated (yes?)
I, too, plan on draining mine this weekend, but we'll see if that actually happens. Haven't decided on what brand I'll be using..tempted to try Mobil One or some other expensive type, although I don't know if that is really necessary.
$15 seems to be the average price of high-end oils, at least in my searches.

Yep, $15 is average for the MB ATF too, but the Ebay guy is charging $15 for the lot of 3! So I am thinking why not just use the OEM...

I don't know if ATF for 722.6 (5-speed) transmissions is backward compatible with 722.3 and .4 transmissions (80s 4-speed). That's a pricey experiment when regular Dexron III is proven to work well. That said, there was some discussion about Mobil 1 and Amsoil dropping specific Dex III compatibility from their labels, possibly due to expiration of Dex III licensing. Regardless, the Mobil 1 and Amsoil ATF you buy today smells different from what they sold a couple of year ago so many believe it's reformulated. I'm not sure if Redline ATF still has Dex III on the label.

I have 3 ATs and each takes a different fluid (Dex III, Dex VI and ATF+3). Thank goodness 2 take the same engine oil.

That would be the right transmission fluid for your car if you have a 722.6 electronic 5 speed transmission in your 87 300D. In the more likely event that your car has its original transmission you need Dexron III which is about $2.50 a quart for the best there is.

Got it..
I was using the same oil for my 2005 CDI.
Can anyone tell me the part number 722.4 MB OEM ATF fluid?
Otherwise I will just stick to Mobile 1
The ATF fluid that was in there according to records is some sort of Penzoil crap...

722.4 transmissions use the same fluid as the 722.3 transmissions, anything with the Dex III rating.
