auto transmission linkage to vacuum control swap

Hi there, I just joined and I have a serious problem with the auto on my 300TD. It has a vac control system but the gearbox went bang and is no longer operational. Now, I have 2 other cars and both have the older linkage type set up. On these the ports for the vac unit seems to be blocked off with an aluminium washer and bolt. Can I just screw the vac unit in, in place of the linkage up the front of the box?

I would like to use the current injector pump as it is in good condition but I also have a rebuilt unit off one of my other cars. I do prefere the mechanical link to the vac system and I don't care about rough gear changes. I have read all the info on these gear boxes but it doesn't solve my predicament.

Are there any gearbox overhaul/repair manuals available? As I am thinking of buying a kit to do one up with.

How can you tell what part number the gearbox is? I know that it is 722.XXX something but the only numbers on it start with 115.
Finding a reputable repairer here near where I live is very hard as everywhere I have been for repairs to any of my vehicles has been second or third grade and too expensive for what you get.

Anyway, back to the gearbox. The two seem to be identical with the number R115 271 45 01 on the side. There is just a hole where the linkage connects on the vac controlled box so it seems I can not convert it. Does the gearbox need to be disassembled for this?
What to do?

I found a rebuild manual published by the ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group/Guild) at http://www.atsg.biz/
Here is a link to the manual for 722.3 and 722.4 rebuilding, and it only costs $25, either paper or download. (When I ordered the paper version, I got access to download the electronic as well. Instant gratification as well as hard copy!)

As for the conversion, or the cross reference, I can't help much. My w123 manual is in the garage, so I can't look in the reference list of what tranny came with your model.

I think I will throw this into the too hard basket. I will pull out the other injector pump and install the linkage system. Or try it with the fitted injector pump.

Linkage forever!!!
