123 Climate Control Help
Start vehicle from cold, it warms up with dial on 22 and heat comes on and blows etc. After some time system recognizes it's warm enough and shuts off. Time passes and it starts to blow again. I noticed that only cool air comes out of the two center vents. It never warms up again. Push button assembly has been replaced somewhat recently. Just seems like a control to tell the heat to come back on is not functioning. Any ideas?
A booklet on the CC systems would be nice if someone knows where I can get the original... used. dave 83 300TDT 87 300 Dt 87 300SDL (103K) 91 300SL (18K) |

Center Vent vacuum element
These two vents are controlled by a vacuum element. I noticed a repair video on this component on Ebay. Just punch in 300D vent vacuum. Hope this helps.

There should be no heat on the center vents. My center vents pod take a while to actuate during startup. Probably why you feel heat at the beginning and not in the next cycle.

sounds like you got problems with the vacuum elements or the switch over valves. you also may have problems with temperature sensors as well.
the w123 service disc has procedures on how to test these. ill entertain any questions you have with the w123 climate control. currently working a non function one and bringing it back to life

Hot air from the center vents would indicate a vacuum/actuator problem. Cold air from the center vents is normal. Cold air when the heat should be working is not normal; that would indicate a control problem. If the ACC "thinks" that it is in the heater mode, there should be no air from the center vents.
What happens if the temp selector is rotated to the extreme warm (detent) position? One possible cause of the problem is that the hose that connects the temp sensor (on the dashboard) to the plenum has disintegrated. You can get to it by removing the glove box. Observing this problem some more...
going down the highway today I had the thermostat on about 26 to get some heat after it shut off. Around there I got heat (that's in the red). Also noticed that it was coming from all four vents. hmmm
