Electrical Problems: Windows and sunroof

When I first got my 300D, the only window that didn't work was the front passenger side...but about a week ago, they all stopped working, except for the rear drivers window. Then when I took it out for a drive last night, the sunroof decided to pack up. Now it's stuck open, and it doesn't sound like the motor or anything at all is moving or doing anything when I press the button to close it.

I checked all of the fuses in the engine bay, and they seem to be fine... I even gave them all a good wiggle to make sure they were seated properly. One thing I thought was odd, though, was that there isn't a fuse for the sliding roof... Is there perhaps another fuse box somewhere that I don't know about?

Johnathan.......how is the battery charge & charging system? Sometimes those none essential systems start to do wierd things when there is not enough juice to go around. If it is the 31 year old 77 300D it maybe your grounds. Check all your grounding cables and posts under the hood for good contact. If they are corroded wire brush them and loosen and tighted the post bolts/screws on the fender well and fire wall. Just my thoughts......
May be someone else can chime in.

Johnathan< we`re in Calif. It doesn`t rain here .

In the trunk on the drivers side, pull the plastic panel back and expose the sun roof motor. there in a nut to turn, and it will close the roof.

I think counter clock will close it.

I would have thought a car that old had the manual roof.

with everything shutting down on you like this, might be dirty switches,
or enough corrosion on the fuses to not make contact.

Ditto on checking the grounding points.

I have replaced fuses that looked good, and things worked again .

On some 300D models, the sun roof can be operated manually from the motor in the trunk. Checking your owners manual might be a worthwhile endeavor.

Ok...I feel kinda dumb. I didn't realize the diagram on the inside of the fuse box cover corresponded to the fuse position...I thought it was just a numbered list. I also thought that the four corner fuses were just extras. -_- Not so, they are for the windows and sliding roof! The diagram says (sliding roof) in parentheses all by itself in the very corner, and it's a smaller font than the rest of the fuse markers...no wonder I missed it...

if your fuses are good then ill suggest this.

Check your window switches and window motors. Over the years as the more use the more voltage it takes to do the same operation. Ive seen the window motors plastic gears inside the motor actually strip and the window will not go down. to test your motors without removing them from the car i would disconnect them from the center console switches, take jumper leads to the pins and apply voltage. If the windows go down then you know the motor is good and the wires going to it are good and something is wrong with the switch. check for corrison etc at the switch. if the jumper lead test shows that window dont go down then remove the panels, remove the motors and bench test them.

as for the sunroof the procedure is similar. check the to make sure the motor is fine by pulling the switch and applying jumpers to the pins. then test the switch. before doing this check your fuse.

both your problems may be caused by bad wires as well. cant tell until you test it

Oh, I should have been more explicit in my last post...my sunroof and windows are working now that I replaced the fuses. The fuses looked fine, but as soon as I removed them, they both fell apart...
