Please, need input on a nice E 300D - 1995
Dear fellow members, a visitor from the Tech Help Forum would like to ask you, Diesel specialists, a few things:
Found an extraordinarily nice example of an E 300 D, 1995 with 101,000 miles (one owner, all service records at the dealer). Although color combo is perfect for me and the car seems in extremely good condition, can you please advise me on the following: 1/- Besides known problems with sticking heating blow plugs, is there any other major concern on the non-turbo M606 engine to look for? 2/- Was the 1995 M606 engine wiring harness prone to disintegrate like it happened on gasoline engines? 3/- Although low for its age, I am feeling a little uneasy about a car with over 100,000 miles, should I be? 4/- Finally, price, they are asking US$10,000 (too high or is it OK?). Thank you so much in advance for your input.

A Rosich......if it was deligently serviced by a dealer, the 100K miles is nothing on that diesel engine.
You mentioned probably one of the biggest concerns with the 606 and that is the difficulty in removing the glow plugs. With a little patience they can be removed without breaking them...but if they are functioning properly don't mess with them! The things I would check are the motor mounts and the cars suspension system. The road system in Costa Rica that I have been on are some of the most torn up/ chuck holed deplorible roads that I have driven. They would take their toll on a luxury vehicle's suspension system. If it was simply driven in the city of San Jose then it is probably OK. The price seems OK to me if it is in top shape, but I am just south of Boston so my concept of price is a little warped. The price for a used Diesel MB usually is running about 20% higher than the comparable gas version of that same model with the same mileage. Hope that helps

The price seems a bit high to me. You can get a similar W210 diesel here in the same price range. 100k miles on that engine is nothing.
The 95's did suffer from bad harness'. The other nagging problems with the 606.910 are complaints of surging at higher speeds commonly caused by sticky resonance and/or EGR flaps in the IM/Crossover. Its a nice engine/chassis combo. Should give you ~35mpg's at freeway speeds.

If the air conditioner system dies, can you live without it?

Thank you so much to everyone for the helpful replies.
The car is actually in the U.S., not in Costa Rica. If bought, I would ship it here. You used to be able to survive in Costa Rica without air conditioning, now it is a must in San José and most beach areas.
