Past logger saying hello....

Many posts from the past, many posts not so popular, but some here will still remember me, mostly as "BusyBenz" and for many, too well, including the webmaster! But back to our MB's... I spoke often here about my 87 300 D, that I had found ready for scrap in 2002 with a typical 603 cracked head. The car, up until the point, or crack, had been maintained at it's origin, Transatlantic Motors, in Hyannis Mass, a Premier Mercedes Dealership, just as was the custom order (rare) 1985 190E, I had had, previous to the 87 300D.

With little money, I bought a 123, with a good 617, thinking I could swap, but upon deeper investigation with tape measure, I realized quickly a near impossible task. The 124 was not designed to except the 123's five cylinder om617, not without cutting holes in the hood, or the firewall, plus, the 603 was a much better refined diesel anyway. I found a 603 w/167K for $1650 and put that in, even though it had the dreaded #14 head. Not all early #14 heads proved bad, most actually lived on.

Since September 07, The last day I saw my 124, now drive an Audi A6, I really miss that car, it is without a question, of the nearly 60 automobiles I have owned, driven, the very best of all. The Volvo's come in second, But that 87 300 D, will be most missed.

Unfortunately, the pre 1995, MB cars, my choice, are getting too old....I looked at a 92 300 D recently, and although the engine and drive were impressive, the rust around the jack ports told me NO!

I got 31mpg with that 87 300D, and few jap cars even come close today!

I stll check back from time to time here, and have always enjoyed the read...

I used to think the same, what old iron. Then I bought a clean '87, it's now driven almost daily, ... trouble-free and a grin to drive.

Find a nice one, they're out there.

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.

We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works
