Oil Pressure Question?
My 85 300D takes about 3-4 seconds to start registering the oil pressure. I always noticed this after a filter change but I thought it generally registered immediatley the rest of the time.
It seems that it is filling the oil filter cannister every time and that is what the delay is. I have put 80K miles on the car and never noticed the delay before execept after an oil change. Is this normal or has something changed.......besides my perception!! Stephen

I think its normal takes a few seconds for my 83 300CD to start to register oil pressure on start up, as long as it can maintain the pressure while driving normally then you should be fine.

You might check the condition of the two o-rings near the bottom end of the tube attached to the oil filter housing cover.

It is hard to see on the pick but in the bottom of stem that goes down the middle of the oil filter cap there is a check valve. I believe I read that the check valve is supposed to keep the oil from draining out of the filter housing when your car sits. So, if it is not seating well the oil will drain out. There is a hole going side ways through the stem at the top of the stem that you can blow air through. You cannot blow through it from the bottom.

When I fire my car up cold it takes less than 2 seconds for it to peg.....I agree, check those O-rings on the filter cap stem.

Ok, I think the two or rings are as hard as hell and have been for as long as I can remember. They definately need to be repalced. I will try that and check on the check valve ASAP.
So the chek valve is in the stem attached to the cap?? I would guess the o rings are a dealer item so it may be a few days. Thanks, Stephen
