Question Counter hold while tightening harmonic balancer bolt?

I have searched the forum but no real luck on recommendations for a counter hold while tightening harmonic balancer bolt on 617 in a 126 300sd . The manual I have says to use a steel bolt as a counter hold in one of the recesses on balancing disc and on cylinder crankcase see picture but the picture is so bad that I can’t make out anything.
Any Ideas?
Thanks

What engine?

On a 603 there's a tool that holds the starter ring gear to the block.

the fsm shows a ratchet extension jammed b/w the upper pan and the cut-out in the balancer.

Yes, just use anything that you can wedge in the recess.

Thanks,
Using a ½ inch extension wedged through the balancer and under the upper oil pan worked great. Since this was my first time tightening this bolt I was unsure if the pan lip could take the torque.

really?, I was not a fan of this idea either for the same reasons. I found another means of securing the crank.

What did you use to torque to spec?

270-330 Nm (200-243 Ft Lb)for the torque

Using the 1/2 inch socket extension works fine. I had my wife hold the extension while I torqued the bolt.

Dave

thanks D, I was wondering what tool he used for this purpose. Not many average DIYers have a torque wrench that goes to 350 Nm
