Anybody ever use a Wilbar 3209 Metering Gauge to time an engine

I was just wondering if anybody has ever had any experience using a Wilbar D-3209 Metering tube to time a Mercedes Diesel before? A friend of mine has used it several times to time the Benzs and tells me it works great. It has a glass tube with markings ever MM or so. So instead of the drip method you actually measure fuel output to time. Now I am not 100% sure the proper procedure on using this tool so any input would be great!
Here is a picture of it

If you follow the instructions it should work. With the drip tube you are looking to see when the fuel is just about to be compeley cut off from comming out of the drip tube; X amout of drops.
If you use the above tool without taking apart the Delivery Valve Holder and removing the Deliver Valvy cone it may be that you watch that tube and when you see the slightes movement in the fuel that is the "Begin Injection" point.
