Died on the expressway

Driving home from the airport after she had been sitting for 17 days at the park and ride. Before I left I topped her off with 1/2 tank regular diesel and 1/2 tank of B100. Got about 15 miles down the expressway and she just started losing power. Pulled over and would not start up. Replaced the spin on filter. The secondary looked clean.Primed her up but was getting no fuel at the injectors. Got cold and had her towed home. Any ideas would be grateful. It has gotten cold here in the last few weeks.

Thanks
BB

did you try swapping the supply and return lines?

If you've got a full tank of fuel and are parked on a level surface, fuel should come pouring out of the line when you change the primary (clear plastic) filter. If not, the fuel pickup in the tank is clogged.

Exactly right. I'm still running straight B100 and no problems with the fuel. Running B50 should not be related to a fuel problem here in Atlanta.

I would definitely check the tank screen. Has the prefilter got little black sandlike crap in it? (Remove and drain on a paper towel.... you can also do the same with the primary filter, but the prefilter should catch it.) If you do, like mine, I had to clean the tank filter.

You might get a longer fuel inlet hose and run it into a separate container of clean diesel fuel; re-prime the system with the Hand Primer and eve loosen some of the Injector Hard line nuts and crank to see if any fuel is comming out. This would tell you if there is a problem to the rear.
Also the Spin-on filter is the Secondary Filter.
Is the Fuel Tank Filler Access Door/Cover locking? If not I would be worried someone dumped something into your Fuel Tank.

The clear filter is clean, and I am positive no one dumped anything in the tank. I need to get a new plastic hose to go from the fuel filter to the injector pump. I broke it last night loosening up the banjo bolt. Anybody know what size that is.

I replaced mine with regular black 1/4 inch fuel hose and hose clamps (If using Biodiesel the hose labled Fuel Injection Hose is lined with a material like Viton; http://www.goodyearep.com/ProductsDetail.aspx?id=5144).

In order to get the plastic tubing off of the barbs on the Banjo and the other fitting on the Fuel Supply Pump end I softened the plastic with the flame from a Butane Lighter and pried it off with a dull knife. The non-broken end just pulled off after it was softened.

If you want to stick with the plastic lines the dealer is the only option I believe.

Just cut the plastic up to where the barb of fitting is (leave some of the plastic hose on the metal). Then clamp on 5/16 fuel hose on it and your done. Sorry to hear you have to go through with this.

Hey Guys

The problem was in the primary fuel filter. It is not one of those totally clear ones, it is a bit opaque.I could not tell it was all clogged up with crap. There is good flow coming from the fuel tank. I am definitely going to use the StarTron algae killer as soon as I get to West Marine. I am seeing some leaking around the primer pump area. All of the clamps are tight. It has a new primer pump on it.Are there O rings that you can replace in the primer pump itself?

Thanks
BB

the old style Primer pump is a white knob and is prone to leaking and is not rebuildable. The new style is a black pushbutton and does not leak. You will need a crowsfoot wrench if you expect to change the pump and keep your sanity.

As I said in my post I have the new style black primer pump, but something is leaking from the large brass nuts. Are there rubber O rings that can be replaced?

There is supposed to be a copper washer there, but it doesn't always come with the updated primer pump.
