WTF Just saw an ad for a class action lawsuit about DIESEL EXHAUST!
I just saw a commercial telling about a link between Diesel exhaust and lung cancer. They are looking for 'victims'
Is there a link between our Diesels and the big 'C'?

Edit: Why does it remove all capitalized letters and change them to lower case ones? Now I can't make any smiley...

Who can they sue? Every company that makes a Diesel engine?

Basically yes in my opinion. They may have to prove negligence in design though as the risk has been known for a long time.
Win against one company conclusivly and the others may pay as well..The possible future liability issues may damage domestic companies ability to market new diesel cars to some extent. Always was best to keep the blower motor on when driving with the windows up. Smart knowledgeable owners have done this for a long time. Any diesel car manufacturer not providing automatic positive cabin pressure may be in trouble. Of course releastically the litagators will have to prove or disprove somehow statistically rhat diesel car owners have a far higher incidence of lung canaer to prevail. Very long expensive uphill battle to prevail. Sounds like something launched on purpose by ethical lawyers. No doubt a registration fee to join the class action. Non refundable of course even if issue really never sees the light of day. Oh why Am I so cynical. Last edited by barry123400; 11-01-2008 at 12:26 AM. |

What I fail to see is how people can start something as ridiculous as this - claiming a "public health risk" or however they justify this, from something as patently harmless as engines (harmless unless used improperly) without starting similar proceedings against those things that are in far more widespread popular use that cause far more damage - like tanning beds, for example. Why are we so diesel-phobic now that a lawsuit against engine companies for the people who would have to concentrate diesel fumes for years on end to get sick is considered reasonable, but nobody ever thinks about going after tanning salons for skin cancer, etc? There are far more real dangers in public usage that receive far less violent attention.

If they can't prevail against the tobacco companies, I doubt they will get too far against the auto and truck manufacturers.

But it's not the engines that are dirty, it's the fuel!

And the "settlement" which will be hailed as a victory by the participants (after providing employment for the non-honor & integrity driven part of the legal profession for many years), will be in the form of a "credit" to be used for future purchases of the same fuel

Gasoline exhaust has carcinogenic chemicals in it too, you just cant see the exhaust...
Im sure ANY fuel burnt in a modern high compression ICE engine releases carcinogens.
