Swapping Engines???????

I have a question about swapping engines. I have a 1985 300D that needs an engine. I purchased a used engine from a 1983 300D but I wasn't even thinking that my 1985 has more electrical parts on the engine such as a plug in for the part on the side of the injection pump, a crank sensor and a couple other goodies. My question is can I still swap the engines eventhough the engine I am going to install isn't from a 1985 300D with these additional parts? Will I run into any problems? Thanks for any help.

With out the plug on the injection pump the EGR computer will not work (probably not a big deal), but with out the crank sensor the tach and AC will not work.

Why not just swap the necessary parts over. The "crank" sensor is not, it is just a sensor on the bellhousing to read the fly wheel rpm. Easy to take off if you have the transmission off?

the tach on the 85 comes from the sensor on the flywheel.

The core engine is identical. All the differences are in the bolt-on items.

I will definitly switch the bell housings so that the crank sensor will work. But I don't really think I need to get into switching out the injection pumps may be alittle over my head. Do you think this will be a problem that I should pay someone to fix or that it really won't be that big of a deal?

Regarding the RPM sensor, you may have to swap out the flywheel also in order for it to work. This is important that this sensor works because it will also control the A/C function as well as the Tach.

The '83 IP can be left intact. Unless you want to have emission functions, then you'll need to swap IPs and Turbos for the ARV. Swapping IPs could be good experience for anybody, it's a bit of work but not impossible.
