newbie needing info

hello my name is sean and i am new to the m/b diesel cars
i recently aqquired a 1991 sd350 with 188,000 miles a rebuilt motor @ 130,000 miles and i great shape.

there are a couple of things wrong with it that i need help with.

prob 1 - a mouse chewed on the ( i think power wire ) to the radio the radio is two piece, one in the trunk and the face plate in the dash. need wireing diagram if possible. it runs down the battery if the #2 fuse is left in , the radio works intermitent.

prob 2 - the a/c leaks down onto the passenger floor board. only thing i can think of is a condensor drain tube.

prob 3 - need to know more info on this model (w125, w126) ?

can provide vin but not at this time

i do know that the provider of this car to me is the original owner and still has the original sticker, this car has been garadge kept its entire life.

he had the engine rebuilt because he thought it was the engine that was blown when it was only the turbo.

any info would be helpful, history, diagrams, anything.

thanks for your help i have enclosed a couple crappy pics of the car ( this may help)

Welcome to the forum.

Your 3.5L W126 was known as the "rod bender". Prob the worst diesel engine MB made. That said, some are fine and many folks here love them.

Enter your vin here to see the options the car came with. http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

Sounds like the AC drains are plugged. Need to roto rooter it.

The best diesel 126 made, period.

If the engine is good, all is well, don't worry about it. Read "rod bender" threads here, a search will turn up several, not all 3.5s are bad and you can always throw in a 3.0 if you really want to (and gain power!).

Fuse 2 serves the clock, turn signals, radio, power seats, cabin lights and warning system. What's the current draw through fuse 2? You have to give some time for systems to cycle through shutdown after you pull the fuse and hook up an ammeter. Maybe it's something simple like the trunk light stuck on.

As Terry said, you have a W126.

The W125 didn't come with AC or a radio

If you plan to keep the car, look for a factory manual set in paperback from the parts forum, eBay or a store like books4cars.com, or on CD available from MBUSA, the FastLane option in the Buy Parts link at the top of this page, or from numerous bootleggers. In the CD manual, the stereo wiring diagram takes 3 pages of a 139MB pdf.

I believe there were radio options, my '91 had amps behind the rear seatback, head-unit in the trunk, ... you'll have to know which one I'd imagine.

The best is to get a CD manual set from M-B, I believe it's only around $35-$40. The CD isn't as good as the paper manual ("electrical troubleshooting manual") but much less expensive.

By 91 all 126 sedans had the split tuner with 10 speakers (pair of full range in dash, pair of separates in doors, pair of separates in rear deck = 10 in some marketing mind, whatever) and amps behind the rear seats. The only option was a Becker Silverstone CD changer and possibly dealer rather than factory installed.

Some folks talk about a Bose option in a 126 but I've never seen it and the ETM doesn't show a Bose option.
