Return of Godzilla

Since the above described repairs, the car has run with no problemos. Ambient temps had been in the upper 50'sF to 70'sF.

We had a problem this morning.

Ambient temp was about 29F.

It started fine. Idled for about 5 minutes as the kid had last minute freak-out looking for (fill in the blank).

Kid was driving the car to school today and it crapped-out on her.

More particularly, she drove a mile at about 35 MPH, no problem.

Slowed and entered left turn lane.

Turned left at slow speed and started to accelerate when the dashboard lit-up -- engine had stopped.

Coasted to a stop.

Tried restart periodically for about 5 minutes and then it restarted. (Note to self, tell her about burning-up starter motor if not allowed cool-down).

Ran fine to school, 30 mph for a mile.

Came home in afternoon, ambient temp about 50F. Engine behaved perfectly.

I mentioned the turning rate and direction because back in the early '70's I had a 1965 Plymouth Fury II, 383 4 bbl carb (IIRC). It would sometimes die on a left turn (I think it was left...). Anyway, it was a carb problem (floats?) and after a kit, worked like a charm.

Yes, I know a diesel doesn't have a carburetor. But the lesson I learned is that sometimes seemingly extraneous events point to a precise solution.

So .....

Any ideas?

B
