Question on 123 fuel tanks

Are they all interchangeable? What about the 126's, will
they fit a 123?
I ran my tank in the coupe down till the light came on, it
only took 15 gal to fill so I am assuming it only has a 17
gal tank. I would like a bigger one.

Yes, W123 tanks are interchangeable. I have a 300D tank in my 240D - it's about 3 gallons larger. I don't think W126s are the same and I know W116s are not the same as W123s.

How so? What doesn't work?

I see now that the OP had a coupe- do sedans and coupes not mix? Obviously wagons are unique.

Sedans and coupes should interchange.

Fuel capacity
65 litres
14.3 UK Gal
17.2 US Gal

seems like my sedan had a bigger tank, but with prices jumping up and down it could have been the same

My '85 owner's manual says: 21.1 US gallons including a 2.8 gallon reserve.

Wow- 21.1 gal? I just went 427 miles on 12 gallons in my 240D (with a newly installed 300D tank)...so I will have a cruising range of almost 800 miles. Nice.

A wagon tank will fit, just lay it in the trunk .

Iam sure all other W123 body`s will fit ea other. I know my 85 is large, especially when filling it up, an endless hole

Don`t expect to get one at Pick N Pull, every one I see is punched full of holes.
