Diagnostic Checklist

In addition to my 300SDL I have a diesel Suburban and currently am a member of dieselplace. One of the great things of that site is that it has a diagnostic checklist sticky. So if you have a problem you can post your answers listed on the diagnostic sticky. This gives other reader a better idea what you have done to solve your problem and where they should be suggesting. Maybe a couple of our Mercedes Gurus can put a list together. Just a though....

Do you really want the moderators here to jump on incomplete posts like the folks at thedieselplace.com do???

edit - I forgot the smiley

Looking at the big picture this might be good thing. Less redundancy when diagnosing problems and less posts. I personally have found the checklist useful at the dieselpalce.

The 61x family alone has more variation than the 6.2/6.5 family so a checklist would be that much more complex. Throw in the 60x family and the 62x family for good measure and it's quite a project. Oh, and CDIs.

This can happen with good sponsorship. Are you volunteering? Seriously, maybe you can write model specific indices for whunter's DIY links. Or start with the 6.2/6.5 checklist as a template and assign folks here to fill in the blanks for the 61x and 60x.

I understand the variation between models. And I got my head handed to me on my first post on dieselplace but I learned quickly if I really wanted an answer I needed to follow procedure. I am just suggesting simple diagnostic forms for reoccurring themes. For example:
Problem: Slow acceleration(seems like a reoccurring problem)....
Diagnostic: Did you change your filters? Did you treat for algae and sludge in tank? Sixto, can we test the LP on the Mercedes like on the 6.5s?
Problem: Wont start...
Diagnostic: Did you test your GPs? Test the battery?....
I just thought a simple check list could eliminate redundant post and save a little time.
The dieselplace diagnostic is too extensive for here. I was thinking simple.....

One of my Jeep discussion boards started deleting all threads that that did not have the required minimum information. I'm not sure if they did this to save server space or to be *****s, but its one way to clear out the suckas.

My GPS is tracking 14 satellites, so I know exactly where my car won't start.

All the redundant stuff gives the newer guys something to answer. Keeps interest up.

Its a nice season change from AC and overheating questions. Now the no start and broken heat season starts. Followed by the spring leak season.

Seems like NOBODY on the tech forum posts any model or location information, at least not in sigs. This forum does pretty well IMO.
