300SDL Failure to start

Hope evrybody is having a good day and all your cars are starting...because mine isn't! I come to school early in the morning at about 6:30AM in my 300SDL and when I'm ready to leave, the car won't start. I as thinking dead battery

I don't even hear an effort from the engine. Glow plugs warm up like usual and I don't know if this is relevant, but all the fuses appear to be fine.

Meanwhile I'm using my iPod to type in this thread and the search function on this iPod sucks. Stuck waiting for a tow home. Busted starter? Help is greatly apreciated.

Start at the beginning - Battery and connections.
How old is battery?
Connections clean and tight?
Turn on headlights - do they burn? Turn to ignition position - do they go out?

I do have the Battery from my 300SD. Should I use that? I noticed that my radio doesn't shut off when I attempt to start. The clock appears to have the correct timeas well.

I would be suspect of the connections. On the SDL there is also an auxillary connection to the positive side. Make sure it's clean and tight. If this is dirty or loose it will cause the condition you describe and make you go nuts trying to figure it out. Don't ask me how I know this.

Well it's about 0911 right now and I just got home. Just for luck I attempted to start the car...AND IT STARTED! I don't know what could've happened, but I'm a little paranoid to get stuck somewhere now...or in other words, scared to drive the car

That's what I was thinking, but I haven't shifted gears ever since. Never touched the Shifter...and yet it happens....why?

There are days (typically when the 300SD is hot) where I come out, turn the key and only get "click". I know I have something going in the starter solenoid, but if I shut down and re-attempt 5-10 times, I get it to crank.

Sometimes I shift to reverse and let the car roll a little then stab park.

Never had to attempt over 10 times.

Not sure if this is the same as you, but it's my only experience that comes close.

Hmmm....so this is a neutral safety switch? I found a DIY on that somewhere here. So I guess I'll look it up now that I'm home.
