To buy or not to buy TDT...that is the ?

Found an 81 TDT for $350....only 171,000 but skips 3rd gear.Easy fix or new tranny?Advice appreciated

At $350 you could even make a profit by parting it out. I'd buy it.

I'm sure more diagnosis is needed before determining if you need to swap the trans.

That's a very difficult transmission problem, probably impossible to fix. Please give me the seller's info.

You do realize you posted a bit of a wimpy note about being offered the second most sought after 123 for almost nothing. The $350 you'll spend is chump change compared to what you will spend later. Assume at least 10 times that to get it into really great condition - and that's if you do most of the labor yourself.

There's your solid advice. It takes most of us about a year to get our cars worked out, and that's working at a pretty good pace.

On a positive note, you will become obsessed and want to buy more.
