I have a major diesel leak somewhere by the injection pump but cant really see it to pinpoint it because of the intake manifold assemblies ,does anybody no if I can remove the intake assemblies and start the car to locate the leak.Also if I have to remove the intake should I replace the glowplugs?

you can run the engine with the intake off.

Check yourr DV's on top of the IP for wetness and use a mirror and flashlight to see up under the SOV and over around the lfit pump.

You might want to also check the inj return lines under the plastic sheild on top of the engine first too.

All are common leakers that dontt really require IM removal to find.

There is a very good likelyhood that your fuel leak is one of the plastic lines. The O rings typically get brittle and leak. As Terry says, you can do some lines without taking off the intake manifold, but IMHO it is best to pull the intake manifold and replace them all, as long as you are going to the trouble of taking the manifold off. (although it is generally only the O rings themselves that leak, the whole batch of lines is not that expensive so you might as well do them too)

If you are an eager beaver you can order Viton O rings and use them instead of the stock O rings, McMaster Carr is a good source, or you can get them from someone on the board, I forget who. You can search the board for the list of sizes needed and the source.

DV = Delivery Valves.
SOV = Shutoff valve.
IP = Injection Pump.
