Help with throttle linkage / turbo queations

So after I had cleaned out my overboost solenoid on my 87 300D I had tremendous power starting around 1900-2000 rpm. However, I adjusted my mechanical idle a few days afterward and in the process changed the tension on the throttle cable that is linked to the pedal.
So, I still have decent pick up but it is not anywhere near as good as it was before, and I am trying to figure out what the cause is. Now instead of building mountains of torque and thrusting me into my seat at 2000 it isn't building until 2300 or so, and it doesn't feel as strong as before. I know it sounds negligable but MAN it was sweet when I had it the other way, and I want it back! The lines are all clean and I have tried overriding the switchover, but no difference.

Does anyone has the FSM for proper throttle setting? I spent an hour or so driving around and adjusting it very slightly but I feel like I might be going too far. The power is somewhat better but still not the same.

I am pretty sure when I had the best power I was using winter diesel, but if it was D2, would that make any difference? I don't see how it would change the rpm of when I feel the torque build.

Here is what I feel is the culprit:
-If the throttle is not at the proper tension, then when I give, say 30% throttle, I am not making the same amount of fuel / exhaust as if the throttle were set properly, thus not making the turbo spool up as quickly / make as much boost.
Upper rpm power seems the same (3000+) but I haven't spent as much time up there as I have trying to figure out the low end.
Does that sound right? Please correct me if I am wrong, I am still learning quite a bit.

Two more things:
1. After my last adjustment, things seemed to be getting better, but my throttle seemed to be sticking a little bit, for example, hovering around 1000 at speeds around 30 if I was coasting. Is this normal? Previously it would go down to idle but if the throttle was loose I can understand why. No sticking issues at idle / 0 mph.
2. This one might be silly, but at one of the places I stopped at to pop the hood, I noticed what looked like some light smoke coming from the engine bay. It was only visible in a beam of light though. However, it was dark out, AND 32 degrees. I looked around, no signs of leaks, no smell at all...I am thinking it was just steam from the cold like when you see your breath. At least I hope so. I haven't noticed it again on the test run and everything sounded fine. I'll have a look once it is light out.

I also need to have a buddy depress the pedal to see if the linkage is going to the stop on the IP but that will have to wait a few days. Regardless of this, it has nothing to do with the change I am talking about because I have never messed around with those linkages.
