722.3 Transmission Question

Would anyone happen to have the torque specification for the valve body bolts on a 722.3 transmission? Thanks.

Tangofox, are you on the final stages of getting your transmission sorted out? I'm curious to see how your experience (and others') works out. Please post results when you are happy. I just got the Superior kit, without the essential 10 step instructions and vacuum optimization tips, just a couple supplemental sheets, and I believe you and Cbase had the same experience, yes? I've written the vendor asking for it, but I might be begging for the instructions from someone if they don't come through. All those springs of various and, in some cases, rather similar colors intimidate me and I'm trying to decide what I need to do to mine...a Christmas project. The 1-2 shift is fine, but it has a nasty 2-3 flare, worse when cold, as well as a 3-4 flare. A careful illustrated DYI on this would be really nice, though I think I can get through with the volume of information posted on the long previous thread and links from Bob 98 and others AND the instructions.

Thanks so much. The spec is 8 Nm, if anyone else needs to know.

I have no idea what stage I am in!!! All I know is that a little bit of the kit made a great improvement; installing the rest of the kit has been a disaster. The next step is to "uninstall" everything except the K1/K2 accumulator springs and see where that leaves me. At this point, it seems to me that installing the entire kit changes too many variables at once. My original problem was a bad 2-3 flare. Once that was taken care of (by installing the K1 and K2 accumulator springs), the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts were so nice that it made the 1-2 shift seem firm, so I decided to install the remainder of the kit in a quest for perfection. At this point, I am wishing that I had settled for "good enough."

All I received was the sheet on stacked shifts and one page that came with an alternate B1 control valve spring for '90 models and later. PM your email and I will send you the rest of the instructions.

In that case, I would recommend that you initially install only the K1 and K2 accumulator springs from the kit. Both of those can be installed without removing the valve body, which, I suspect, is a very good thing.

As you will see, the instructions mention an "early model" and a "late model" transmission. Apparently, there are also some interim versions. I thought that I had an early version based on the accumulator spring configuration, but the "early version" B1 control valve spring was definitely not correct for my transmission. It was so large that the valve had no room to move whatsoever.
