617 metal fuel line clamp couplers?

Did a search but didn't find anything, probably because I don't even know what to call them. Looked under the hood of a friend's SD and noticed little clamps holding the metal fuel lines from IP to injectors together, two at a time. I'm discovering more and more things my car doesn't have. The other was a cigar hose. So, those things look OEM, so I'm sure they have a purpose. Question is, what do they do, how important are they, and should I go hunt some down? Thanks in advance.

vibration damper clips? I'm sure Phil can get them, just call. Or go to a JY. I'm sure fastlane can get you the cigar hose too.

Yep, Phil got me the cigar hose a couple of weeks ago. How important are the vibration damper clips?

I would say that they are of moderate importance. Are there none on the lines?

Maybe go to a JY and if you can find a 617 intact, take note of the clip's locations and then pull them. When I removed mine to replace nozzles, I marked the lines where they were.

Nope, none there at all. Do these things perform a mechanical function that prevents wear on the lines, or something like noise dampening?

the fuel line clamps are very important. they keep the lines from viabrating. you may not see it, but it is there.

In the long run w/o them the lines will crack and either leak fuel and or suck air.

there should be 7 of them.

do you have a Pick N Pull type yard near you? I think they are 8MM nut/bolts.

Seven? I don't remember seeing more than four on my buddy's SD. Can you describe the location of where each should go? I'll check the JY's tomorrow. Thanks.

Now you just wanted me to out in the cold night air and risk my health .

there are 4 in a row just above the Delivery valves where the lines screw on the IP. right about where they make the first bend.

then there is one higher up between #1 & #2 line, and one higher up between line #2 & #3 line.

the last one is on the last two lines #4 & #5. these 2 go to the right and are straight and long. that last clip is up high on the lines just before they make the bend for #4 & #5 injector.

on your friends SD, maybe they were removed and lost at some time when the lines were removed to replace the injectors etc...

Take a digital camera to the JY or use your cell phone camera to snap a couple of pics before pulling anything. Sure makes reassembly a lot easier.

well you are right they will leak with the high pressure going to the injector they are screwed on to. but probably could pull in some air when
the engine is shut off. but it would only affect that injector with some nailing when first starting up and not the rest of the system.

we had a dump truck with a Cat engine many years ago where I worked. the darn thing would run good and then sputter and die. bleed the system and would run ok for a while.

there was a hard line that had a crack that sucked in some air and would kill the engine. took a while to find the problem. but that wasn`t a injector line we are talking about here.
