Angry is it just me, or does the chilton manual suck eggs?

15,000 relatively trouble-free miles on Lola, I'm now having electrical problems, and trying to figure out why. i replaced the voltage regulator on Lola the last time this happened (16 months ago). the chilton manual doesn't even LIST the voltage regulator as a part. glow plug light, battery light and another unkjnown light (orange with a circle on it) coming on at various intervals.

also, i know it's time to replace the fuel filters and do some other routine maintenance, but the diagrams are sketchy and or non-existent. what gives?

can anyone recommend a good repair manual? or, even better--an old guy in the detroit area named Crusty who just loves working on old diesels in exchange for homemade cookies?

The official manual from Mercedes is pretty good and available from the dealer on CD at a relatively low price. It has so much information that I am sometimes overwhelmed. I have also found a subscription to the EPC parts site to be very helpful. The address is http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/ and the subscription is free if you only need US model cars. I pay like $12 for a year as my car is a Euro. The website has very detailed parts diagrams and I use it to find the part numbers I need before calling any part suppliers. Try these two things first and go from there.

It's not totally worthless it had some diagrams in it that I used when I was trying to figure out what manual trans gear shift linkages I needed. But for the most part it's not the greatest. The MB Shop manual is the best manual you will find. The paper copies are by far better but they cost quite a bit more, and there are three, 2 body and chassis manuals and and engine manual. You can find the CD versions on ebay or from the MB Classics center. I use the Shop manuals and I also have a Chiltons and a Hanyes. The Chilton and Hanyes aren't complete by any means but it's another source, sometimes they have good tips.

I am very frustrated with the lack of manuals available for my '95 E300 with the 606 engine. I've got a few, but none seem to be much good for any but the most simple issues.

The Factory Service Manual is $19.99+$7 shipping. Go to the site below and when the page opens look for "Search by Literature Type" and pick "Service Manual" and what the offer will come up to the right.

Yep, it do, "Haynes" is better.
