RallyX'd my 240

I picked up a strong running 240D winter car for 200 bucks. I decided to run it in a RallyX. She did pretty well for a 240D, the 4spd manual was a god send, felt really good. I mounted some studs that came with the car, changed all fluids, made the throttle open way past stock, installed a 300D rad/overflow tank (since it is all I had and the 240 Rad was questionable). I think I suprised some folks.
On the afternoon course, there was a big dip that I was not letting off for , unfortunately it caused the throttle linkage rod to pop out on two runs (which I was able to quickly fix both time fortunately). Put on a good show though. The suspension travel in these things are unreal.
I have my eye on a 4000Q for sale nearby, but I gotta say, that W123 felt really good, makes me think about preparing one for rally: how about a Gutted CDT, 617T, 4spd man, welded 3:47, 1-2 " lift, 15x7 steelies with nasty rally tires, skid plate, etc.?
the 240 just loved to drift, felt very predictable and solid. People said it sounded like a gasser the way she was cryin! I beat my only competion in RWD stock - a Fiero. he was having a good time too.
There were some fun cars to watch. An A4 racer won it, a couple other cool quattro's, and a nast all trac Celica put on quite a show.
I Drove her home with out incident, now she'll be doing 500+miles/wk commuting.
Anyone know of any ratty CD's in NE area?

Reminds me of the rally seen in the 230E from Top Gear's African Special.

This 240 is no Gem - rusty. Atleast I'm using it to preserve my TD, my gem
It was a heck of a deal though and it will make a fantastic winter car. I was due for a deal like this.

I'd love to run my truck in something like that!

It is so much fun, this was my first RallyX. Way more fun than autoX if you ask me! Does not have to be very expensive either, there were some pretty fast cars there built on a shoestring budget.

I was thinking about running my 240D in the 24 hours of lemons. I paid $400 for it so its eligable. Working on putting my race team together to run in Connecticut next summer.

I think you'll find CDs very expensive. I saw a "cheap" on in RI back a few years ago but it had no brakes (none, pedal straight to the floor, parking was... interesting...) and the trans would only work in 1st. That guy wanted $2900...

Yea, I was hoping to find something rough but solid, dents OK, junk interior, bad trans/motor, ect. I would consider any accept for severe rust buckets.
Maybe I'll end up doing something with this 240, but a 2dr sure would make more sense. I wonder how much lighter they are?
I may see you in CT, in this 240 - that'd be a fun competition!
Sounds like a good time, but you can pretty much kiss the car good by after that race - not sure if I want to subject this car to that. Isn't it like 1/2 demo derby? If it's a real race with out unnecessary smashing and bashing I'd be into it.

Awesome! I've always thought a rally prepped W123 would do well at rallyX. I was thinking about a 280 Gasser though.

Markp....who hosted the RallyX in Vermont? Looks like a blast! Was it this past weekend?
Have you ever been over to see any of the Maine Forest Rally national event in July/August. What a great time!

The rallyX was an SCCA NER event, there are quite a few events around here, alot of folks from ME were there (including my competitor with the Fiero)
Yea, I've been up to the Maine winter Rally. That was an SCCA club rally event which required alot more preperation, I don't think they're having it anymore (?) I went up as a spectator a few years back and took the Quantum syncro wagon, ended up doing a fun run on part of the course then ended up on a snowmobile "super highway" it was like an 8 lane highway!
God that Quantum was a great car - too bad they have all pretty much disappeared now.

Yea, I agree. Not only would it give some trouble to the 2wd's, it would be something different which is cool (If I see another Subee, I'm gonna puke!). I was eating up some large bumps that were probably rattling the teeth out of driver's of Strut equipped cars.
