1983 MBZ 300SD. Question on V-Belts

Hey guys, does anyone know the original belt sizes / part #'s for the dual Alternator V-Belts on my 1983 300SD?

I'm asking because i replaced the alternator and the belts and one is tighter than the other, making me think that they are different sizes from each other and not the same size. When i replaced them I simply replaced them with the same # belt that was previously on them.

Your help is appreciated as i do not have any manuals or CD's etc.
Thanks in advance,

Adam

So... are BOTH belts the same size?

I installed new ones and the INTERIOR one is TIGHTER than the exterior one on the dual pulley. ?????

Yes, you should buy what's called a matched set.

Which brand are you using? Some seem to fit better than others. Continental fit real nice.

Ya, what Hat said. I learned the hard way. Use Continetal. Belt problems go away.
Do not buy any American belts that "cross over" to the metric sizes; they don't.

Well I used Gates on my SD, but they didn't fit right. I didn't care because I was selling it, but on a good car use Conti.

I ran across this same problem a few months ago. Gates brand, different batch numbers caused one to be longer than the other. If you bought them locally, and they have more in stock, look for comparable batch #'s.
