Is there an EASY way to check this out WITHOUT taking apart the clutch system? It seems to me that if it is either a loose clutch disk or a defective (possible) pressure plate, that this is going to be an expensive undertaking to fix.....there are inexpensive REPAIR kits available @$30 to repair 3-4 smaller parts on the clutch slave....would this help or is it same thing.....pull the clutch assembly OUT?
You need to take your car to a Mercedes guy and let him drive it, or maybe theres a Forum member in your neighborhood.

As I've said before, I live in NW CT in the town of Litchfield, CT....about two hours north of NYC and about 2.25 hours west of Boston.....only 45 minutes from Hartford, CT.

I would WELCOME the opportunity to have someone with extensive experience with these old diesel MBs try out the car and tell me what gives.....I'll buy lunch!

It appears that many of you are on the West Coast or in Florida....a long way to go to figure this all out but I APPRECIATE ALL THE INPUT.....my mechanic is REALLY a certified MB mechanic (works on MB, VWs, BMWs, Volvos) old and new and has been doing so now for about 25 years in town....has a good reputation but, then again, he's the only game in the area......lol.

BTW, with more driving of this car today, the slippage between third and fourth gears seems to have gone away......perhaps it BURPED when given a new set of baby shoes!

Will monitor performance this week and get back to you all with anything else that develops.....bought two 70LB sand tubes today and placed in trunk...we're having a real blowup (ice/snow) this evening and tomorrow.....slip, slidin' NOT!
