You've just gotta wonder sometimes about folks....If they don't even know the series of their car --- someone should just tell em, it's only worth $500 - hand to to em, and take the car.

Oh - if it was only that easy....

I'll take that '71 300SEL 6.3

I've heard those 6.3's pulled like a freight train, even in a relatively heavy car.

Thumbs up 1972 350sl

Neat ! he's selling two of them and maybe you'd get enough to build one but far more likely is that both are seriously rusty , bummer as the 350SL's are ' pre smog ' and the Bosch D-Jet fuel injection is easily tweakable for more performance in case the stock power isn't enough .

I love these cars , the SLC's make better fast drivers tho' .

The '71 300SEL 6.3 , amazingly these often turn up in Pick-A-Part yards in So. Cal.. and NO ONE wants them so they get stripped & scrapped , more's the pity as they really are rocketships with good road maners .

Silver Black 6.3 would be a definite match for my 6.9.

Nate, are you serious that people are dumping 6.3's in the yards??! I see a lot of W108's but never a 6.3.

Unhappy Sadly , It Is So

Not to say a " lot " but two or three every year , maybe more , unrusted but tatty originals in most cases , been sitting old man's cars abandoned after one too many no starts or the old person dies and no one bids on it as it's filthy...

you know the drill if you're in The Auto Trade...

Pisses me off a lot but I cannot save 'em all and I'm a Dieselhead anyways .

I just know and appreciate good , fast European flavor road rockets .

The really bad thing about most P-A-P yards is : if it's in the front near the fence , you can buy it but once in the rows , forget it ~ I've offered $2,000.00 ca$h for an oldie , more than they'll ever make off parts and scrap metal but no .

I see SL's , Corvettes , old Porsches , the list goes on .

Although I made money hand over fist when I ran a VW junkyard
it's a bear breaking up prefectly good automobiles .

I've been researching this series car --- I personally believe, that the 8 cylinder 280's and 300's are going to really sky rocket in price in a few years....When you dig into the history as to why MB built these cars, and the limited number, and the reasoning as to why they introduced into the US market - It's GREAT!!

Going to gamble - get one, maybe 2 and put em up!!! A 72 280SE 4.5, is what I've got a dude holding for me - solid no rust extremely clean --- Wife won't let me get it until I unload something else, and she's REAL serious --- Note my signature and the 83 D.

I have found these cars, in truely good shape to be getting rare, and the good ones are fetching big bucks - I would like the 6.3 or 6.9, but found the 4.5 first and fell in love. Just to start it, and then walk around behind it while it's idling is amazing, as the exhaust sound is a song of beauty, and then the test drive --- OMG!! --- Takes me back to my 'big block' days of youth!! An old 4 door sedan, that will absolutely scream!!

My being reluctant of the 6.3 or 6.9's has been the 'leveling' suspension --- heard it can be a NIGHTMARE and $$ investment can outweigh the value of the car. This one advertised states the 'suspension' to work properly and be in good condition, and the fact that he mentions that - is an indicator to me, that can be a turn off for prospective buyers.

The 72/73 m117 4.5 liters stock HP is MORE than a stock 560 SL. Plus the hubcap wheels and little bumpers are way cool. Otherwise benztrader stuff is super overpriced.

Don't know about benztrader stuff being overpriced? I'm sure as heck going to throw my $35 at them....gonna list my 83 300D on there - it sure as HE_L can't hurt.....no other 'online' Benz sales outlet has worked, so I may as well hit all of em! Gonna give the local newspaper a shot also! Looking into the 'milk jug' advertising also ---- If nothing else, I'm helping to boost the advertising industry business!!

End of the year is drawing close.....Last chance for the old girl will be to 'donate' her to one of the charities that take 'autos' - Just take the charity tax deduction....Really really don't want to do that, because you have no idea what will become of the car ----- And these cars become part of us, and your family.

Nate if you DO find any more, pull the rear levelling valves under the rear axle and the valves at the front. They're worth saving and not to mention worth some money too even if they're just cores. It's a shame if they're tossed out for such fine cars.
