My 190D continues to amaze

I just pressed my 190D into service. We got a house in Florida so I am driving the trusty diesel to Florida to have as a spare car, as I will spend time in MI and FL for the next 5 months (my 530i is staying in MI).

Anyway, I haven't started the 190D in 3-4 months, yet in 15 degree weather, I just let the glow plugs do their thing....cranked and she fired up as if she was a daily driver and may even have been warmed up earlier that morning.

That vehicle just continues to amaze me.

Now its off to fix the fuel leak near the gas tank and she's ready to go to Florida. I changed the fluids this summer as the 190D drove back and forth between MI and IL a couple of times.

Ill second your admiration of those little mini mercedes go carts.Drove my first mb 190 some 3 years ago in the 2.2 diesel 84 version, it was mine for amere 450 clams ,after some seats being replaced it shaped up to be a real looker..Sold it for forgotten reasons and made eyes on an 88 190d and made my offer ,has been a steady reliable car ever since ownership.I believe MB engineers were planning to beat its predecessor.

Cool Another success story

I have an 86, 190D. It had 284,500 miles on it when I paid $100 for it 3 years ago. I put 2 tires, an exhaust system and a battery after I bought it.

Since then, 2 new front ball joints, new tie rods and 4 new tires. Mobil One since 3,000 miles. I now have 312,000 miles on it and it was a great car for my 17 year old son to learn on, before his 68 Chevelle is finished.

The car still gets 40MPG and is still strong. Since I'm burning free Jet Fuel in it that's a mute point. It reminds me of the old slant 6 or a Timex or the Energizer Bunny.

I still have some electric window issues to iron and out and some front wheel bearings to replace, but I think I'm getting my monies worth out of this one.

free jet fuel?

How did you get free jet fuel?

JP-8? How well does it work?

Are you afraid of wear on the injection pump from lack of lubrication or do you add some 30 weight HD to the mix?

Thanks

Cool Jet Fuel

Yes, add a quart of oil to a tank of fuel and it will keep the injector pump lubed.

Corporate Jets are sumped as part of daily maintenance for water. I have a drum my mechanic drains it into. With the help of a transfer pump, it goes right into the MB or my diesel PU truck.

My 190D will start right up in the low single digits with no block heater. I've never owned a diesel that would start as easily in the cold as this one.

You are so right about starting. With the fuel leak fixed, it stayed outside last night. Started right up at 1.4 degrees F this am to go get my mother in law.

I'm driving it to Florida on Monday and it will move to our Florida winter home from now on. I need an airport car. I'm happy driving it again after 4 years of very little use. As I see it, after living in Chicago/Michigan for 25 years, it is retiring (actively) in Florida.

Jet fuel

I've met 2 different people here in FL burning Free jet fuel in 6 months. One nice perk at the airport. And they used to toss it out.

I'm happy burning WVO.

Had a helicopter pilot looking at my 190d a couple months ago ,he was going to burn the a-jet dregs also .Several techs that work on the copter jets had advised him on the fuel and its uses in diesels.A tech would know why they dispose of the remainder tank fuel.
